1Welcome the person whose faith is weak. Do not argue with him about his opinions. 2One person's faith lets him eat anything. But another person, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. 3The one who eats everything must not look down on the one who does not. And the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does. For God has welcomed him. 4Who are you to judge someone else's servant? It is his own master who decides if he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand. 5One person thinks one day is more special than the others. Someone else thinks every day is the same. Each one should be fully sure in his own mind. 6The one who keeps a special day does it for the Lord. The one who eats does it for the Lord, for he gives thanks to God. And the one who does not eat does it for the Lord, and he also gives thanks to God. 7For none of us lives only for himself. And none of us dies only for himself. 8If we live, we live for the Lord. If we die, we die for the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9This is why Christ died and came back to life. He did it so that he would be Lord of both the dead and the living. 10So why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? We will all stand in front of God's judgment seat. 11It is written, "As surely as I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow to me. Every tongue will confess to God." 12So each of us will explain himself to God. 13So let us stop judging each other. Instead, make up your mind not to put anything in your brother's way that would make him trip or fall. 14I know and am fully sure in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean by itself. But if anyone thinks something is unclean, then for him it is unclean. 15Your brother may be upset by what you eat. If so, you are no longer acting in love. Do not ruin your brother by what you eat. Christ died for him. 16So do not let what you think is good be called evil. 17For the kingdom of God is not about eating and drinking. It is about doing what is right, and about peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18Whoever serves Christ in this way pleases God. And people approve of him too. 19So let us go after what brings peace. Let us work at what builds each other up. 20Do not tear down God's work just because of food. All food is clean. But it is wrong for a person to eat something that makes someone else trip and fall. 21It is better not to eat meat or drink wine. It is better not to do anything that makes your brother fall. 22Keep what you believe about these things between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not judge himself guilty for what he approves. 23But the one who has doubts is judged guilty if he eats. That's because his eating does not come from faith. And everything that does not come from faith is sin.
