1So I urge you, brothers and sisters, because of God's mercy, to give your bodies to him. Give them as living sacrifices that are holy and pleasing to God. This is your spiritual way to worship. 2Do not copy the ways of this world. Instead, let God change you by making your mind new. Then you will be able to test and approve what God wants. His will is good and pleasing and perfect. 3By the grace God gave me, I say this to every one of you. Do not think of yourself as better than you should. Think about yourself with sound sense. Measure yourself by the faith God has given you. 4Each of us has one body with many parts. And not all the parts do the same job. 5In the same way, we are many, but in Christ we are one body. Each part belongs to all the others. 6We have different gifts, based on the grace God gave us. If your gift is to prophesy, do it as much as your faith allows. 7If it is to serve, then serve. If it is to teach, then teach. 8If it is to encourage, then encourage. If it is to give, then give freely. If it is to lead, then lead with care and hard work. If it is to show mercy, then do it gladly. 9Love must be real. Hate what is evil. Hold on tight to what is good. 10Love each other deeply, like family. Try to beat each other at showing honor. 11Don't let your eager spirit cool down. Keep your spirit on fire as you serve the Lord. 12Be joyful in hope. Be patient in trouble. Keep on praying. 13Share with God's people who are in need. Make a habit of welcoming guests into your home. 14Bless those who hurt you for your faith. Bless them, and do not curse them. 15Be glad with those who are glad. Cry with those who cry. 16Live in peace with each other. Do not be proud. Be friends with people who are humble and poor. Do not think you are so smart. 17Do not pay anyone back evil for evil. Think hard about doing what everyone can see is right. 18If you can, as far as it is up to you, live at peace with everyone. 19Dear friends, do not get even. Leave room for God's anger. For it is written, "Getting even is mine. I will pay them back, says the Lord." 20Instead, "If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink. For when you do this, you will heap burning coals on his head." 21Do not let evil win over you. Instead, win over evil with good.
