1Then I looked, and there was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion! With him were 144,000 people. They had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads. 2I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters. It was like a loud clap of thunder. The sound I heard was like harpists playing their harps. 3They sang a new song in front of the throne. They sang it in front of the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000. They had been bought back from the earth. 4These are the ones who did not make themselves unclean with women. They are virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were bought back from among people as firstfruits to God and to the Lamb. 5No lie was found in their mouths. They are without fault. 6Then I saw another angel flying high in the sky. He had the eternal good news to tell to the people who live on the earth. It was for every nation, tribe, language, and people. 7He said in a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory! The hour has come for him to judge. Worship the one who made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and the springs of water." 8A second angel followed him. He said, "Fallen! Babylon the great has fallen! She made all the nations drink the wine of her wild passion for sexual sin." 9A third angel followed them. He called out in a loud voice, "If anyone worships the beast and its image and gets its mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10he too will drink the wine of God's anger. It has been poured full strength into the cup of his anger. He will be tormented with fire and burning sulfur. This will happen in front of the holy angels and the Lamb. 11The smoke of their torment rises forever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image. There is no rest for anyone who gets the mark of its name." 12This calls for God's people to be patient and to keep going. They keep God's commands and their faith in Jesus. 13Then I heard a voice from heaven. It told me to write: "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." "Yes," says the Spirit. "They will rest from their hard work, for what they have done will go with them." 14I looked, and there was a white cloud! Sitting on the cloud was someone like the Son of Man. He had a gold crown on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15Then another angel came out of the temple. He called out in a loud voice to the one sitting on the cloud. He said, "Swing your sickle and reap! The time to harvest has come. The crop of the earth is ripe." 16So the one sitting on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth. And the earth was harvested. 17Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven. He also had a sharp sickle. 18Still another angel came from the altar. He had power over the fire. He called out in a loud voice to the angel who had the sharp sickle. He said, "Swing your sharp sickle. Gather the bunches of grapes from the earth's vine. Its grapes are ripe." 19So the angel swung his sickle over the earth. He gathered the earth's grapes. He threw them into the great winepress of God's anger. 20The grapes were stomped in the winepress outside the city. Blood flowed out of the winepress. It rose as high as the horses' bridles. It flowed for about 180 miles.a
