¹LORD, you are the God who pays back.
God who pays back, shine out! ²Rise up, Judge of the earth.
Give the proud what they deserve. ³How long will the wicked, LORD,
how long will the wicked celebrate? ⁴They pour out proud words.
All who do evil brag. ⁵LORD, they crush your people.
They treat your own people cruelly. ⁶They kill the widow and the foreigner.
They murder children who have no father. ⁷They say, "The LORD doesn't see.
The God of Jacob doesn't notice." ⁸Pay attention, you foolish people!
You fools, when will you get wise? ⁹God put the ear in place. Can't he hear?
He made the eye. Can't he see? ¹⁰He warns the nations. Won't he punish them?
He teaches people. Doesn't he know things? ¹¹The LORD knows what people think.
He knows their thoughts are worth nothing. ¹²LORD, blessed is the man you correct,
the one you teach from your law. ¹³You give him rest from days of trouble,
until a pit is dug for the wicked. ¹⁴The LORD will not leave his people.
He will never give up on his own people. ¹⁵Judging will surely be fair again.
All whose hearts are good will follow it. ¹⁶Who will stand up for me against the wicked?
Who will take my side against those who do evil? ¹⁷If the LORD had not helped me,
I would soon have lived in the land of silence. ¹⁸If I say, "My foot is slipping,"
your faithful love, LORD, holds me up. ¹⁹When worry is too much for me,
your comfort brings joy to my soul. ²⁰Can an evil ruler be your partner?
Can one who makes laws to cause harm be on your side? ²¹They join together against the righteous.
They sentence innocent people to death. ²²But the LORD has been my fortress.
My God is the rock where I am safe. ²³He will pay them back for their own sin.
He will destroy them for their evil.
The LORD our God will destroy them.
