1For the choir leader. According to gittith. A psalm of the sons of Korah.
How lovely is the place where you live,
LORD of Hosts!
2My soul longs for the courtyards of the LORD.
It even grows weak with longing.
My heart and my body cry out for the living God.
3Even the sparrow has found a home.
The swallow has found a nest for herself.
There she keeps her young near your altars,
LORD of Hosts, my King and my God.
4How happy are those who live in your house!
They are always praising you. Selah
5Happy are those whose strength is in you.
Their hearts are set on the journey to your house.
6As they pass through the Valley of Baca,
they make it a place of springs.
The autumn rain even covers it with pools.
7They grow stronger and stronger
until each one stands before God in Zion.
8LORD God of Hosts, hear my prayer.
Listen, God of Jacob. Selah
9God, look at our shield.
Look with kindness on the face of your anointed one.
10For one day in your courtyards is better
than a thousand days anywhere else.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than live in the tents of the wicked.
11For the LORD God is a sun and a shield.
The LORD gives grace and glory.
He does not hold back any good thing
from those who live honest lives.
12LORD of Hosts,
how happy is the one who trusts in you!
