1A Shiggaion of David. He sang it to the LORD about what Cush, a man from the tribe of Benjamin, said.
LORD my God, I run to you to be safe.
Save me and rescue me from all who chase me.a 2If you don't, they will rip me apart like a lion.
They will tear me to pieces, and no one will rescue me. 3LORD my God, if I have done this,
if my hands have done wrong, 4if I have paid back my friend with evil,
if I have robbed my enemy for no reason, 5then let my enemy chase me and catch me.
Let him stomp me into the ground.
Let him leave my honor in the dust.
Selah 6Get up, LORD, in your anger.
Rise up against the rage of my enemies.
Wake up, my God, and order that justice be done. 7Let the peoples gather all around you.
Sit on your throne high above them. 8The LORD judges the peoples.
LORD, judge me and show that I am right,
because I have done right and kept my heart pure. 9Put an end to the evil of the wicked.
But make those who are right with you stand firm,
O righteous God,
you who look deep into hearts and minds. 10God is my shield.
He saves those whose hearts are honest. 11God is a righteous judge.
He is a God who is angry at evil every day. 12If a person does not turn back to God, God will sharpen his sword.
He has bent his bow and put on the string. 13He has made his deadly weapons ready.
He makes his arrows into flaming arrows. 14Look, the wicked man is full of evil, like a woman in labor.
He becomes pregnant with trouble.
He gives birth to lies. 15He has dug a hole and made it deep.
Then he has fallen into the pit he made. 16The trouble he causes comes back on him.
His violence falls on his own head. 17I will thank the LORD because he is righteous.
I will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.
