1For the choir leader. A psalm of David. A song.
God rises up.
His enemies run in all directions.
Those who hate him run away from him. 2Smoke is blown away.
In the same way, you will drive them away.
Wax melts in the fire.
In the same way, the wicked will perish when God is near. 3But those who are right with God will be glad.
They will be happy before God.
They will celebrate with joy. 4Sing to God! Sing praises to his name.
Lift up the one who rides on the clouds.
His name is the LORD.
Be glad before him. 5God is a father to children who have no father.
He protects widows.
He does this from his holy home. 6God gives lonely people a family.
He leads prisoners out to a good life.
But those who rebel live in a land burned by the sun. 7God, you went out in front of your people.
You marched through the wild land. Selah 8Then the earth shook.
The skies poured down rain before God, the one of Sinai.
They poured rain before God, the God of Israel. 9God, you sent plenty of rain.
You gave new strength to your own tired inheritance. 10Your flock made its home there.
God, from your good gifts you gave to the poor. 11The Lord gives the word.
A great crowd of women tell the news: 12"Kings and their armies run away fast!
The woman who stays at home divides up the plunder. 13You may lie down among the sheep pens.
But the wings of the dove are covered with silver.
Her feathers shine with gold." 14The Almighty scattered the kings in the land.
It was like snow falling on Zalmon. 15Mount Bashan is a mountain of God.
Mount Bashan is a mountain with many peaks.a 16Mountains with many peaks, why do you look on with envy?
This is the mountain God chose for his home.
The LORD will surely live there forever. 17God's chariots number tens of thousands.
They are thousands upon thousands.
The Lord is in his holy place, as he was at Sinai. 18You went up on high.
You led away captives.
You received gifts from people,
even from those who rebel,
so that the LORD God may live there. 19Bless the Lord!
Every day he carries our heavy load.
He is the God who saves us. Selah 20Our God is a God who saves.
The Lord GOD rescues us from death. 21God will surely crush the heads of his enemies.
He will crush the hairy heads of those who keep on sinning. 22The Lord said, "I will bring them back from Bashan.
I will bring them up from the bottom of the sea. 23Then your feet may wade in the blood of your enemies.
Your dogs' tongues will have their share too." 24God, they have seen you parade in.
They have seen my God and King march into the holy place. 25The singers lead the way.
The musicians follow.
Young women play tambourines among them. 26Bless God in the great gathering.
Bless the LORD, you who come from the spring of Israel. 27There is Benjamin, the youngest, leading them.
The princes of Judah are with them.
The princes of Zebulun and of Naphtali are there too. 28God, call up your power.
Show your strength, God,
the strength you have used for us. 29Kings will bring you gifts
because of your temple at Jerusalem. 30Rebuke the wild animal in the reeds,
the herd of bulls among the calves of the nations,
until it gives in and brings bars of silver.
Scatter the nations who love war. 31Messengers will come from Egypt.
Cush will reach out her hands to God. 32Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth.
Sing praises to the Lord. Selah 33Sing to the one who rides across the highest, ancient skies.
Listen! His mighty voice thunders. 34Say that power belongs to God.
His majesty is over Israel.
His strength is in the skies. 35God, you are awesome in your holy place.
The God of Israel himself gives strength and power to his people.
Bless God!
