1For the choir leader. To be played on stringed instruments, by the Sheminith. A psalm of David.
LORD, do not scold me in your anger.
Do not punish me in your great anger.a 2Be kind to me, LORD, for I am weak.
Heal me, LORD, for my bones are in great pain. 3My soul is very upset.
How long, LORD? How long? 4Turn to me, LORD, and rescue my soul.
Save me because of your faithful love. 5For no one remembers you when they are dead.
Who can praise you from the grave?b 6I am worn out from groaning.
All night long I flood my bed with crying.
I soak my couch with tears. 7My eyes are weak from sadness.
They grow dim because of all my enemies. 8Get away from me, all you who do evil!
For the LORD has heard me crying. 9The LORD has heard me beg for mercy.
The LORD accepts my prayer. 10All my enemies will be ashamed and full of fear.
They will turn back in sudden shame.
