1For the music leader. To the tune of "A Dove on Distant Oaks." A miktam of David. He wrote it when the Philistines grabbed him in Gath.
God, be kind to me, for men are chasing me.
All day long they keep attacking.a 2My enemies chase me all day long.
Many proud people attack me. 3When I am afraid,
I put my trust in you. 4I praise God's word.
I trust in God. I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me? 5All day long they twist my words.
All they think about is how to ruin me. 6They plot together. They hide.
They watch my steps.
They wait for a chance to kill me. 7They sin like this. Will they get away?
God, in your anger, throw down the nations. 8You have kept track of all my wanderings.
Put my tears in your bottle.
Aren't they written in your book? 9On the day I cry for help, my enemies will turn back.
This is how I will know that God is on my side. 10In God, whose word I praise,
in the LORD, whose word I praise, 11in God I trust. I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me? 12God, I must keep the promises I made to you.
I will bring you thank offerings. 13For you have saved my soul from death.
You have kept my feet from tripping,
so that I may walk before God in the light of life.
