1For the music leader. A maskil of David. He wrote it after Doeg the Edomite went to Saul. Doeg told him, "David has gone to the house of Ahimelech."
Why do you brag about evil, you mighty man?
The faithful love of God lasts all day long.
2Your tongue plans to destroy.
It is like a sharp razor, you liar.
3You love evil more than good.
You love lies more than telling the truth. Selah
4You love every word that hurts and destroys,
you lying tongue.
5Surely God will bring you down to ruin forever.
He will grab you and pull you out of your tent.
He will pull you up by the roots from the land of the living. Selah
6Those who do right will see it and fear.
They will laugh at the evil man and say,
7"Look at the man who did not make God his safe place.
He trusted in his great riches.
He made himself strong by destroying others."
8But I am like an olive tree growing well in the house of God.
I trust in the faithful love of God forever and ever.
9I will praise you forever, because you have done it.
I will wait on your name, for it is good.
I will do this in front of your holy people.
