1A psalm of David, to help remember.
LORD, don't scold me when you are angry.
Don't punish me in your great anger.
2For your arrows have gone deep into me.
Your hand has pressed down on me.
3My body is not healthy because of your anger.
My bones have no rest because of my sin.
4For my sins are like a flood over my head.
They are a load too heavy to carry.
5My wounds stink and are full of pus
because of my foolish sin.
6I am bent over and brought low.
All day long I walk around in sorrow.
7For my back and sides are full of burning pain.
No part of my body is healthy.
8I am numb and badly crushed.
My heart is in pain, and I groan.
9Lord, you know everything I long for.
My groaning is not hidden from you.
10My heart is pounding. My strength is gone.
Even the light of my eyes has faded.
11My loved ones and friends stay away because of my sickness.
My relatives stand far off.
12Those who want to kill me set traps.
Those who want to hurt me talk about ruining me.
All day long they plan lies.
13But I am like a deaf man who does not hear.
I am like a man who can't speak and does not open his mouth.
14I am like a man who can't hear.
His mouth gives no answer.
15LORD, I wait for you.
You will answer, Lord my God.
16For I said, "Don't let them laugh at me.
They make fun of me when my foot slips."
17For I am about to fall.
My pain is always with me.
18Yes, I admit my sin.
My sin troubles me.
19I have many enemies for no reason.
Many hate me without a cause.
20They pay me back with evil for the good I do.
They attack me because I go after what is good.
21LORD, do not leave me.
My God, do not be far from me.
22Come quickly to help me,
Lord, my Savior.
