1Of David.
LORD, I call to you.
You are my Rock. Do not close your ears to me.
For if you stay silent,
I will be like those who go down to the Pit. 2Hear me as I beg for mercy.
Hear me when I call to you for help,
when I lift up my hands toward your holy place. 3Do not drag me away with the wicked,
with those who do evil.
They speak kindly to their neighbors,
but they have evil in their hearts. 4Pay them back for what they have done,
for the evil things they do.
Pay them back for the work of their hands.
Give them what they deserve. 5They do not care about the works of the LORD
or what his hands have done.
So he will tear them down and never build them up again. 6Praise be to the LORD,
for he has heard me beg for mercy. 7The LORD is my strength and my shield.
My heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
So my heart is full of joy.
I thank him with my song. 8The LORD is the strength of his people.
He is a strong fort that saves his anointed one. 9Save your people and bless those who belong to you.
Be their shepherd and carry them forever.
