1Of David.
The LORD is my light and the One who saves me.
Who should I be afraid of?
The LORD is the strong fort of my life.
Who should I fear?
2Evil people came at me to eat me alive.
But my enemies tripped and fell.
3An army may camp around me,
but my heart will not be afraid.
A war may break out against me,
but I will keep trusting.
4I have asked the LORD for one thing.
This is what I want:
I want to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life.
I want to look at the beauty of the LORD.
I want to seek him in his temple.
5For when trouble comes, he will hide me in his shelter.
He will hide me in his tent.
He will set me high on a rock.
6Then I will hold my head high above my enemies all around me.
At his tabernacle I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy.
I will sing and make music to the LORD.
7Hear my voice when I call, LORD.
Be kind to me and answer me.
8My heart said, "Seek his face."
LORD, I will seek your face.
9Do not hide your face from me.
Do not turn your servant away in anger.
You have been my helper.
Do not leave me or forsake me,
O God who saves me.
10Even if my father and mother forsake me,
the LORD will take me in.
11Teach me your way, LORD.
Lead me on a smooth path,
because I have enemies who treat me badly.
12Do not hand me over to what my enemies want.
For people who lie about me stand up against me.
They breathe out violence.
13Still, I am sure that I will see the goodness of the LORD
in the land of the living.
14Wait patiently for the LORD.
Be strong and courageous.
Wait patiently for the LORD!
