1A maskil of David, when he was in the cave. A prayer.
I cry out loud to the LORD.
I lift up my voice to the LORD for mercy.a 2I pour out my complaint to him.
I tell him about my trouble. 3Even though my spirit grows weak inside me,
you know the way I am going.
On the path where I walk,
they have hidden a trap for me. 4Look to my right and see.
No one is paying attention to me.
I have no place to be safe.
No one cares about my soul. 5I cry to you, LORD.
I say, "You are my safe place.
You are my share in the land of the living." 6Listen to my cry,
for I am brought very low.
Rescue me from the people chasing me,
for they are too strong for me. 7Set my soul free from prison,
so that I can praise your name.
Those who do right will gather around me
because you are good to me.
