1For the music leader. A psalm of David.
LORD, rescue me from evil men.
Protect me from violent men,
2who plan evil in their hearts
and stir up wars all day long.
3They make their tongues sharp like snakes.
The poison of vipers is on their lips.
Selah
4LORD, guard me from the hands of the wicked.
Keep me safe from violent men
who plan to make me trip and fall.
5Proud people have hidden a trap for me.
They have spread the ropes of their net along the path.
They have set out snares for me.
Selah
6I say to the LORD, "You are my God."
LORD, hear my cry for help.
7Lord GOD, you are the strength that saves me.
You cover my head on the day of battle.
8LORD, do not give the wicked what they want.
Do not let their evil plans succeed,
or they will become proud.
Selah
9As for those who surround me,
may the trouble their lips have caused
cover their heads.
10May burning coals fall on them.
May they be thrown into the fire,
into muddy pits,
never to rise again.
11May no one who tells lies about others
last long in the land.
May disaster hunt down the violent man.
12I know that the LORD brings justice for the poor.
He defends the rights of the needy.
13Surely those who do right will praise your name.
Honest people will live in your presence.
