1A song of ascents.
LORD, remember David
and all the hard things he went through. 2Remember how he made a promise to the LORD.
He made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob: 3"I will not go into my house.
I will not get into my bed. 4I will not let my eyes sleep.
I will not let my eyelids rest, 5until I find a place for the LORD,
a home for the Mighty One of Jacob." 6We heard that the ark was in Ephrathah.
We found it in the fields of Jaar. 7Let us go to his home.
Let us worship at his footstool. 8Rise up, LORD, and come to your resting place,
you and the ark of your strength. 9May your priests be dressed in what is right.
May your people shout for joy. 10For the sake of your servant David,
do not turn away from your anointed one. 11The LORD made a promise to David with an oath.
He will not take it back.
He said, "I will put one of your descendants on your throne. 12If your sons keep my covenant
and the laws I will teach them,
then their sons will also sit on your throne
forever and ever." 13For the LORD has chosen Zion.
He wanted it for his home. He said: 14"This is my resting place forever and ever.
I will live here, for I have wanted this home. 15I will bless her with plenty of food.
I will fill her poor people with bread. 16I will dress her priests with salvation.
My people there will sing out with joy. 17There I will make a horn grow for David.
I have made a lamp ready for my anointed one.a 18I will cover his enemies with shame.
But the crown on his head will shine."
