1Hallelujah!
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good.
His faithful love lasts forever.
2Who can tell all the mighty acts of the LORD?
Who can praise him as much as he deserves?
3Blessed are those who stand up for what is fair.
Blessed are those who always do what is right.
4LORD, remember me when you show kindness to your people.
Come to me and save me.
5Then I will see your chosen ones do well.
I will share the joy of your nation.
I will praise you with your own people.
6We have sinned, just like our fathers.
We have done wrong and acted in evil ways.
7Our fathers in Egypt did not understand your wonders.
They did not remember how kind you were so many times.
Instead, they turned against you by the sea,
there at the Red Sea.
8But he saved them for the sake of his name.
He did it to make his power known.
9He spoke sharply to the Red Sea, and it dried up.
He led them through the deep water as if it were a desert.
10He saved them from the power of those who hated them.
He redeemed them from the power of the enemy.
11The waters covered their enemies.
Not one of them was left.
12Then they believed his promises.
They sang his praise.
13But they soon forgot what he had done.
They did not wait for his advice.
14In the wilderness they wanted more and more.
They tested God in the desert.
15So he gave them what they asked for.
But he also sent a sickness that made them waste away.
16In the camp they grew jealous of Moses.
They were jealous of Aaron too, the LORD's holy one.
17The ground opened up and swallowed Dathan.
It buried Abiram and his group.
18Then fire blazed through their followers.
Flames burned up the wicked.
19At Horeb they made a calf.
They worshiped an idol made from melted metal.
20They traded their glorious God
for the statue of a bull that eats grass.
21They forgot God who saved them.
He had done great things in Egypt,
22amazing works in the land of Ham,
and awesome acts at the Red Sea.
23So he said he would destroy them.
But Moses, his chosen one, stood in the gap before him.
He turned God's anger away so he would not destroy them.
24Then they turned up their noses at the beautiful land.
They did not believe his promise.
25They complained in their tents.
They did not listen to the voice of the LORD.
26So he raised his hand and made a promise.
He swore to make them fall in the wilderness.
27He swore to spread their children among the nations
and scatter them across the lands.
28They joined themselves to the god Baal of Peor.
They ate sacrifices offered to dead gods.
29They made the LORD angry by what they did.
And a plague broke out among them.
30But Phinehas stood up and stepped in,
and the plague was stopped.
31It was credited to him as righteousness
for all generations to come, forever.
32At the waters of Meribah they made the LORD angry.
Trouble came to Moses because of them.
33For they turned against his Spirit,
and Moses spoke without thinking.
34They did not destroy the peoples
as the LORD had commanded them.
35Instead, they mixed with the nations
and took up their ways.
36They worshiped their idols,
and the idols became a trap for them.
37They sacrificed their sons and their daughters
to demons.
38They spilled innocent blood,
the blood of their own sons and daughters.
They sacrificed them to the idols of Canaan.
And the land was made unclean with blood.
39They made themselves unclean by what they did.
They were unfaithful like prostitutes by their acts.
40So the LORD's anger burned against his people.
He hated his own people, who belonged to him.
41He handed them over to the nations.
Those who hated them ruled over them.
42Their enemies treated them cruelly.
They brought them under their power.
43Many times he rescued them.
But they kept choosing to rebel.
They sank down in their sin.
44Still, he heard their cry.
He saw their trouble.
45He remembered his covenant with them.
Because his faithful love is so great, he changed his mind.
46He made all who held them captive
feel sorry for them.
47Save us, LORD our God.
Gather us from among the nations.
Then we will give thanks to your holy name.
We will be glad to praise you.
48Praise the LORD, the God of Israel,
forever and ever.
Let all the people say, "Amen!"
Hallelujah!
