1Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman he had married. He had married a woman from Cush. 2"Does the LORD speak only through Moses?" they asked. "Doesn't he speak through us too?" And the LORD heard what they said. 3Now Moses was a very humble man. He was more humble than anyone else on earth. 4All at once the LORD spoke to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. "You three, come out to the Tent of Meeting," he said. So the three of them went out. 5Then the LORD came down in a pillar of cloud. He stood at the entrance to the Tent and called Aaron and Miriam. They both stepped forward. 6The LORD said, "Listen to what I say.
If there is a prophet among you,
I, the LORD, will show myself to him in a vision.
I will speak to him in a dream.
7But it is not this way with my servant Moses.
He is faithful in all my house.
8I speak with him face to face,
clearly and not in riddles.
He sees the form of the LORD.
So why weren't you afraid
to speak against my servant Moses?"
9The LORD was very angry with them, and he left. 10The cloud lifted from above the Tent. Suddenly Miriam had a skin disease. Her skin was white like snow. Aaron turned toward her and saw that she had the disease.a 11He said to Moses, "My master, please don't hold this sin against us. We were foolish to do it. 12Please don't let her be like a baby born dead, with its body half eaten away when it comes from its mother's womb." 13So Moses cried out to the LORD, "God, please heal her!" 14But the LORD answered Moses, "Suppose her father had spit in her face. Wouldn't she be in shame for seven days? Keep her outside the camp for seven days. After that she may be brought back in." 15So Miriam was kept outside the camp for seven days. The people did not move on until she was brought back in. 16After that, the people left Hazeroth. They camped in the Wilderness of Paran.
