MicahChapter 7

1How sad I am!
I am like someone gathering summer fruit
after the vineyard has been picked.
There is no bunch of grapes to eat.
There is none of the early figs I long for. 2Godly people have disappeared from the earth.
No one is honest anymore.
They all hide and wait to kill.
They hunt each other with nets. 3Both their hands are good at doing evil.
The prince and the judge ask for bribes.
The powerful man says what evil thing he wants.
Then they all plot it together. 4The best of them is like a thorny bush.
The most honest is worse than a thorn hedge.
The day your watchmen warned about has come.
It is the day God will punish you.
Now is the time they will be confused. 5Don't depend on a friend.
Don't trust a close companion.
Be careful what you say,
even to the woman who lies in your arms. 6For a son dishonors his father.
A daughter turns against her mother.
A daughter-in-law turns against her mother-in-law.
A man's enemies are the people of his own house. 7But as for me, I will look to the LORD.
I will wait for the God who saves me.
My God will hear me. 8Don't be glad about my trouble, my enemy!
I have fallen, but I will get up.
I sit in darkness,
but the LORD will be my light. 9I have sinned against the LORD.
So I must put up with his anger
until he takes up my case
and gives me justice.
He will bring me out into the light.
I will see his righteousness. 10Then my enemy will see it.
She will be covered with shame.
She said to me,
"Where is the LORD your God?"
My eyes will see her.
Then she will be stomped on like mud in the streets. 11The day will come for rebuilding your walls.
It will be the day for making your borders wider. 12On that day people will come to you
from Assyria and the cities of Egypt.
They will come from Egypt to the Euphrates River,
from sea to sea and from mountain to mountain. 13Then the earth will become empty and ruined
because of the people who live there.
It will be the result of what they have done. 14Shepherd your people with your staff.
They are the flock that belongs to you.
They live alone in a forest,
with rich fields all around.
Let them eat grass in Bashan and Gilead,
as they did long ago. 15As in the days when you came out of Egypt,
I will show my wonders. 16Nations will see it and be ashamed.
All their power will be taken away.
They will put their hands over their mouths.
Their ears will become deaf. 17They will lick the dust like a snake,
like creatures that crawl on the ground.
They will come out of their forts shaking
before the LORD our God.
They will be afraid of you and tremble. 18Who is a God like you?
You forgive sin.
You pass over the wrongs of those left among your people.
You don't stay angry forever,
because you love to show faithful love. 19He will again show us his tender care.
He will stomp our sins under his feet.
You will throw all our sins
into the deepest part of the sea. 20You will be faithful to Jacob.
You will show faithful love to Abraham.
You promised this to our fathers
long ago.
