1"Do not judge others, or you will be judged. 2You will be judged in the same way you judge others. The measure you use for others will be used for you. 3Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye? Why don't you notice the wooden beam in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye'? All the time there is a beam in your own eye. 5You hypocrite! First take the beam out of your own eye. Then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. 6Don't give what is holy to dogs. Don't throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet. Then they may turn and tear you to pieces. 7Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives. The one who seeks finds. And the door will be opened to the one who knocks. 9Suppose your son asks for bread. Which of you would give him a stone? 10Or if he asks for a fish, would you give him a snake? 11You are evil, but you still know how to give good gifts to your children. If so, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him! 12So in everything, do to others what you would want them to do to you. This sums up the Law and the Prophets. 13Go in through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction. And many go in through it. 14But the gate is small and the road is narrow that leads to life. And only a few find it. 15Watch out for false prophets. They come to you dressed like sheep. But inside they are hungry wolves. 16You will know them by their fruit. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes? Do they pick figs from thistles? 17In the same way, every good tree grows good fruit. But a bad tree grows bad fruit. 18A good tree can't grow bad fruit. And a bad tree can't grow good fruit. 19Every tree that does not grow good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20So you will know them by their fruit. 21Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven. Only the one who does what my Father in heaven wants will enter. 22On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, didn't we prophesy in your name? Didn't we drive out demons in your name? Didn't we do many miracles in your name?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God's law!' 24So everyone who hears these words of mine and does them is like a wise man. He built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down. The floods rose. The winds blew and beat against that house. But it did not fall, because it was built on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them is like a foolish man. He built his house on sand. 27The rain came down. The floods rose. The winds blew and beat against that house. And it fell with a great crash!" 28Jesus finished saying these things. And the crowds were amazed at his teaching. 29This was because he taught like someone who had authority. He did not teach like their scribes.
