1The Sabbath ended. Then Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices. They wanted to go and put them on Jesus' body. 2Very early on the first day of the week, just after the sun came up, they went to the tomb. 3They were asking each other, "Who will roll the stone away from the opening of the tomb for us?" 4But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away. And it was very large. 5They went into the tomb. They saw a young man wearing a white robe. He was sitting on the right side. They were afraid. 6But he said to them, "Don't be afraid. You are looking for Jesus from Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here! See the place where they laid him. 7Now go. Tell his disciples and Peter, 'He is going ahead of you into Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you.'" 8So the women left the tomb and ran away. They were shaking and confused. They were so afraid that they didn't say a word to anyone. 9[Early on the first day of the week, Jesus rose from the dead. He showed himself first to Mary Magdalene. He had driven seven demons out of her.a 10She went and told the people who had been with him. They were mourning and crying. 11They heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him. But they did not believe it. 12After this, Jesus showed himself in a different form to two of them. They were walking along in the country. 13They went back and told the others. But the others did not believe them either. 14Later Jesus showed himself to the Eleven while they were eating. He scolded them because they did not believe and their hearts were hard. They had not believed the people who saw him after he had risen. 15He said to them, "Go into all the world. Preach the good news to every creature. 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved. But whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17These signs will go with those who believe. In my name they will drive out demons. They will speak in new languages.b 18They will pick up snakes with their hands. If they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them. They will put their hands on sick people, and the sick will get well." 19The Lord Jesus finished speaking to them. Then he was taken up into heaven. He sat down at the right hand of God. 20Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere. The Lord worked with them. He showed that their message was true by the signs that went with it.]
