1Jesus said to his disciples, "Things that cause people to sin are sure to come. But how terrible it will be for the person who causes them! 2It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around his neck. That would be better than causing one of these little ones to sin. 3Watch yourselves. If your brother sins, tell him he is wrong. If he repents, forgive him. 4He may sin against you seven times in one day. And he may come back to you seven times and say, 'I'm sorry, I repent.' Even then, you must forgive him." 5The apostles said to the Lord, "Make our faith bigger!" 6The Lord answered, "Your faith may be as small as a mustard seed. Even so, you could say to this mulberry tree, 'Be pulled up by the roots and planted in the sea.' And it would obey you. 7Suppose one of you has a servant who comes in from plowing or taking care of sheep in the field. Would you say to him, 'Come right away and sit down to eat'? 8No. You would say to him, 'Fix my dinner. Get dressed and serve me while I eat and drink. After that you can eat and drink.' 9Would you thank the servant for doing what he was told to do? 10It's the same with you. When you have done everything you were told to do, you should say, 'We are servants who don't deserve anything. We have only done our job.'" 11Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. He was traveling along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12As he was going into a village, ten men with leprosy met him. They stood far away from him. 13They called out in loud voices, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!" 14Jesus saw them and said, "Go and show yourselves to the priests." And while they were on their way, they were made clean. 15One of them saw that he was healed. He came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16He threw himself with his face to the ground at Jesus' feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan. 17Jesus asked, "Weren't all ten made clean? Where are the other nine? 18Did no one come back to give praise to God except this man from another country?" 19Then Jesus said to him, "Get up and go. Your faith has made you well!" 20The Pharisees asked Jesus when the kingdom of God would come. He answered, "The kingdom of God does not come with signs you can watch for. 21People won't say, 'Look, here it is!' or 'There it is!' You see, the kingdom of God is among you."a 22Then he said to the disciples, "The time is coming when you will wish you could see one of the days of the Son of Man. But you won't see it. 23People will tell you, 'Look, there he is!' or 'Look, here he is!' Don't go out and run after them. 24Lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other. That is how the Son of Man will be in his day. 25But first he must suffer many things. The people of today will reject him. 26It will be in the days of the Son of Man just as it was in the days of Noah. 27People were eating and drinking. They were getting married and giving their daughters to be married. This went on until the day Noah went into the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all. 28It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking. They were buying and selling, planting and building. 29But on the day Lot left Sodom, fire and burning sulfur rained down from heaven. It destroyed them all. 30It will be just like that on the day the Son of Man is shown to the world. 31On that day, someone may be on the roof of his house, with his things inside. He should not go down to get them. In the same way, someone in the field should not go back for anything he left behind. 32Remember Lot's wife! 33Whoever tries to save his life will lose it. But whoever loses his life will keep it safe. 34I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed. One will be taken and the other left. 35Two women will be grinding grain together. One will be taken and the other left." 36—b 37They asked, "Where, Lord?" Jesus answered, "Where there is a dead body, the vultures will gather."
