¹Then the LORD said to Moses, ²"Speak to the Israelites and tell them this: I am the LORD your God. ³You used to live in the land of Egypt. You must not do the things they do there. I am bringing you into the land of Canaan. You must not do the things they do there. You must not live by their customs. ⁴You must obey my rulings. You must keep my laws and live by them. I am the LORD your God. ⁵Keep my laws and my rules, for the person who does them will live by them. I am the LORD. ⁶None of you may go near any close relative to have sex. I am the LORD. ⁷You must not shame your father by having sex with your mother. She is your mother. You must not have sex with her. ⁸You must not have sex with your father's wife. That would bring shame on your father. ⁹You must not have sex with your sister. This means your father's daughter or your mother's daughter. It does not matter if she was born in the same home or somewhere else. ¹⁰You must not have sex with your son's daughter or your daughter's daughter. That would bring shame on your own family. ¹¹You must not have sex with the daughter of your father's wife, born to your father. She is your sister. ¹²You must not have sex with your father's sister. She is your father's close relative. ¹³You must not have sex with your mother's sister. She is your mother's close relative. ¹⁴You must not shame your father's brother by going near his wife to have sex with her. She is your aunt. ¹⁵You must not have sex with your daughter-in-law. She is your son's wife. You must not have sex with her. ¹⁶You must not have sex with your brother's wife. That would bring shame on your brother. ¹⁷You must not have sex with both a woman and her daughter. You must not marry her son's daughter or her daughter's daughter and have sex with her. They are close relatives. It is wicked. ¹⁸You must not marry your wife's sister as a rival wife. You must not have sex with her while your wife is still alive. ¹⁹You must not go near a woman to have sex with her during her monthly period. ²⁰You must not have sex with your neighbor's wife. That would make you impure with her. ²¹You must not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molech, for you must not dishonor the name of your God. I am the LORD. ²²You must not have sex with a man as you would with a woman. That is a hateful sin. ²³You must not have sex with any animal. That would make you impure. A woman must not stand before an animal to mate with it. That is a twisted, perverse act. ²⁴Do not make yourselves impure by any of these things. For the nations I am driving out ahead of you made themselves impure by doing all these things. ²⁵Even the land has become impure. So I am punishing it for its sin. The land will throw up the people who live there. ²⁶But you must keep my laws and rules. You must not do any of these hateful things. This is true for those born in Israel and for foreigners who live among you. ²⁷For the people who lived in the land before you did all these hateful things. And the land has become impure. ²⁸So if you make the land impure, it will throw you up. It will do this just as it threw up the nations before you. ²⁹So anyone who does any of these hateful things must be cut off from his people. ³⁰You must do what I command you. You must not follow any of the hateful customs that were done before you came. Then you will not make yourselves impure by them. I am the LORD your God.
