1Then the whole community of Israel gathered at Shiloh. They set up the Tent of Meeting there. The land was now under their control, 2but there were still seven tribes of Israel that had not yet been given their share of the land. 3So Joshua said to the Israelites, "How long will you wait to go in and take the land? The LORD, the God of your fathers, has given it to you. 4Choose three men from each tribe. I will send them out to look over the land and map it out. They will map it by the share each tribe will get. Then they will come back to me 5and divide the land into seven parts. Judah will stay in its land in the south. The family of Joseph will stay in its land in the north. 6Map out the seven parts of the land and bring the map to me. Then I will cast lots for you here, in front of the LORD our God. 7But the Levites get no share of land among you. Their share is to serve as priests of the LORD. And Gad, Reuben, and half the tribe of Manasseh already have their share. Moses the servant of the LORD gave it to them east of the Jordan." 8The men got up to leave. Joshua told them to map out the land. He said, "Go and look over the land and map it out. Then come back to me. I will cast lots for you here in Shiloh, in front of the LORD." 9So the men left and went all through the land. They wrote it down town by town in a scroll, in seven parts. Then they came back to Joshua at the camp in Shiloh. 10Joshua cast lots for them in front of the LORD at Shiloh. There he gave out the land to the Israelites, tribe by tribe. 11The first lot was for the clans of the tribe of Benjamin. Their land was between the tribes of Judah and Joseph. 12On the north side, their border started at the Jordan. It went up past the north slope of Jericho. Then it went west through the hill country. It came out at the desert of Beth-aven. 13From there the border crossed over to the south slope of Luz, which is Bethel. Then it went down to Ataroth-addar, on the hill south of Lower Beth-horon. 14On the west side, the border turned south from the hill facing Beth-horon on the south. It came out at Kiriath-baal, which is Kiriath-jearim. That was a city of the people of Judah. This was the west side. 15On the south side, the border started at the edge of Kiriath-jearim. It went west to the spring at the Waters of Nephtoah. 16Then it went down to the foot of the hill facing the Valley of Ben-hinnom. That hill is at the north end of the Valley of Rephaim. The border ran down the Valley of Hinnom toward the south slope of the Jebusites. Then it went down to En-rogel. 17From there it turned north and went to En-shemesh. It went on to Geliloth, facing the Ascent of Adummim. Then it went down to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben. 18Then it went on to the north slope of Beth-arabah and down into the valley. 19The border went on to the north slope of Beth-hoglah. It came out at the north bay of the Salt Sea, where the Jordan flows in. This was the south border. 20On the east side, the Jordan was the border. These were the borders all around the land of the clans of the tribe of Benjamin. 21These were the cities of the clans of the tribe of Benjamin: Jericho, Beth-hoglah, Emek-keziz, 22Beth-arabah, Zemaraim, Bethel, 23Avvim, Parah, Ophrah, 24Chephar-ammoni, Ophni, and Geba. That was twelve cities, along with their villages. 25There were also Gibeon, Ramah, Beeroth, 26Mizpeh, Chephirah, Mozah, 27Rekem, Irpeel, Taralah, 28Zelah, Haeleph, Jebus (which is Jerusalem), Gibeah, and Kiriath-jearim. That was fourteen cities, along with their villages. This was the land given to the clans of the tribe of Benjamin.
