¹Now Joshua was very old. The LORD said to him, "You are very old. But there is still a great deal of land left to take over. ²Here is the land that is left. There is all the land of the Philistines and the Geshurites. ³It goes from the Shihor, east of Egypt, north to the land of Ekron. It is counted as Canaanite land. It belongs to the five Philistine rulers of Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron. The land of the Avvites is left too. ⁴To the south, there is all the land of the Canaanites. It goes from Mearah, which belongs to the Sidonians, to Aphek. It goes as far as the border of the Amorites. ⁵There is the land of the Gebalites. There is all Lebanon to the east. It goes from Baal-gad below Mount Hermon to Lebo-hamath. ⁶There are all the people of the hill country from Lebanon to Misrephoth-maim. These are all the Sidonians. I myself will drive them out ahead of the Israelites. Be sure to divide this land among Israel by casting lots. Give it to them to own, as I have commanded you. ⁷So now divide this land among the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh. Give it to them to own." ⁸The other half of Manasseh, along with the tribes of Reuben and Gad, had already received their land. Moses had given it to them east of the Jordan. Moses the servant of the LORD had given it to them. ⁹Their land started at Aroer on the edge of the Arnon Valley. It took in the city in the middle of the valley. It took in the whole high plain of Medeba as far as Dibon. ¹⁰It took in all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who ruled in Heshbon. It went as far as the border of the Ammonites. ¹¹It also took in Gilead and the land of the Geshurites and Maacathites. It took in all of Mount Hermon and all Bashan as far as Salecah. ¹²That was the whole kingdom of Og in Bashan. He had ruled in Ashtaroth and Edrei. He was one of the last of the Rephaim. Moses had defeated these kings and taken their land. ¹³But the Israelites did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maacathites. So the people of Geshur and Maacath still live among the Israelites today. ¹⁴But Moses gave no land to the tribe of Levi. Their share is the food offerings given to the LORD, the God of Israel. This is just what the LORD had promised them. ¹⁵Here is the land Moses gave to the clans of the tribe of Reuben. ¹⁶Their land started at Aroer on the edge of the Arnon Valley. It took in the city in the middle of the valley. It went to the whole high plain past Medeba. ¹⁷It went to Heshbon and all its cities on the high plain. These included Dibon, Bamoth-baal, Beth-baal-meon, ¹⁸Jahaz, Kedemoth, Mephaath, ¹⁹Kiriathaim, Sibmah, and Zereth-shahar on the hill in the valley. ²⁰They also included Beth-peor, the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth. ²¹It was all the cities of the high plain. It was the whole kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who ruled in Heshbon. Moses had killed Sihon. He also killed the chiefs of Midian: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba. They were princes under Sihon who lived in that land. ²²The Israelites also killed Balaam son of Beor, who told the future by magic. They killed him with the sword along with the others. ²³The border of the tribe of Reuben was the bank of the Jordan. This was the land the clans of Reuben received. It included the cities and villages. ²⁴Here is the land Moses gave to the clans of the tribe of Gad. ²⁵It took in the land of Jazer and all the cities of Gilead. It took in half the land of the Ammonites, as far as Aroer near Rabbah. ²⁶It went from Heshbon to Ramath-mizpeh and Betonim. It went from Mahanaim to the border of Debir. ²⁷In the valley it took in Beth-haram, Beth-nimrah, Succoth, and Zaphon. It took in the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon. (This was the land east of the Jordan up to the end of the Sea of Chinnereth.) ²⁸This was the land the clans of Gad received. It included the cities and villages. ²⁹Here is the land Moses gave to the clans of the half-tribe of Manasseh. That is, it went to half the families who came from Manasseh. ³⁰Their land went from Mahanaim through all Bashan. It was the whole kingdom of Og king of Bashan. It took in all the towns of Jair in Bashan, sixty cities. ³¹It took in half of Gilead. It took in Ashtaroth and Edrei, the royal cities of Og in Bashan. All this went to the clans who came from Machir son of Manasseh. That was half of Machir's family line. ³²These were the shares of land Moses gave out. He gave them while he was on the plains of Moab, across the Jordan, east of Jericho. ³³But Moses gave no land to the tribe of Levi. The LORD, the God of Israel, is their share. This is just what he had promised them.
