1After Jesus said these things, he looked up toward heaven. He prayed, "Father, the hour has come. Bring glory to your Son, so that your Son may bring glory to you. 2You gave him authority over all people. You did this so he could give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3And this is eternal life: to know you, the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4I have brought you glory on earth. I did it by finishing the work you gave me to do. 5And now, Father, bring me into glory with you. Give me the glory I had with you before the world began. 6You gave me some people out of the world. I have shown them who you are. They belonged to you, and you gave them to me. And they have obeyed your word.a 7Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. 8I gave them the words you gave me, and they accepted them. They knew for sure that I came from you. And they believed that you sent me. 9I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world. I am praying for those you have given me, because they belong to you. 10All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. 11I won't be in the world any longer. But they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them safe by the power of your name. It is the name you gave me. Then they will be one, just as we are one. 12While I was with them, I kept them safe by your name. It is the name you gave me. I guarded them, and not one of them was lost. Only the son of destruction was lost. This happened so the Scripture would come true. 13But now I am coming to you. I am saying these things while I am still in the world. I want them to have my joy, filled up inside them. 14I have given them your word. And the world has hated them, because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. 15I am not asking you to take them out of the world. I am asking you to keep them safe from the evil one. 16They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. 17Make them holy by the truth. Your word is truth.b 18You sent me into the world. In the same way, I have sent them into the world. 19For their sake I set myself apart. Then they too can be made holy by the truth. 20I am not praying only for them. I am also praying for those who will believe in me because of their message. 21I pray that all of them will be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I am in you. May they also be in us. Then the world will believe that you sent me. 22I have given them the glory you gave me. I did this so they may be one, just as we are one. 23I am in them, and you are in me. May they be completely one. Then the world will know that you sent me. It will know that you have loved them just as you have loved me. 24Father, you have given them to me. I want them to be with me where I am. I want them to see my glory. You gave me this glory because you loved me before the world was made. 25Righteous Father, the world has not known you. But I know you. And these people know that you sent me. 26I have made your name known to them. And I will keep making it known. Then the love you have for me will be in them. And I myself will be in them."
