1"Call out if you want, but who will answer you?
Which of the holy ones will you turn to?
2For bitter anger kills a fool.
Jealousy kills a foolish person.
3I have seen a fool put down roots.
But all at once a curse came on his home.
4His sons are far from safety.
They are crushed in court with no one to defend them.
5Hungry people eat up his harvest.
They take it even from among the thorns.
Thirsty people long for his riches.
6For pain does not grow out of the dust.
Trouble does not sprout from the ground.
7But people are born to have trouble,
as surely as sparks fly up.
8But if I were you, I would call out to God.
I would bring my case to him.
9He does great things that no one can understand.
He does more wonders than anyone can count.
10He gives rain to the earth.
He sends water on the fields.
11He lifts up those who are low.
He lifts those who mourn to a safe place.
12He ruins the plans of tricky people.
So their hands cannot succeed.
13He catches the wise in their own tricks.
He sweeps away the plans of sly people.
14They run into darkness in the daytime.
At noon they feel their way as if it were night.
15He saves the needy from the sword in their mouths.
He saves them from the grip of the powerful.
16So the poor have hope.
And wrong has to shut its mouth.
17Truly blessed is the man God corrects.
So don't hate the discipline of the Almighty.
18For he hurts, but he also bandages.
He strikes, but his hands also heal.
19He will save you from six disasters.
In seven, no harm will touch you.
20In a famine he will redeem you from death.
In battle he will redeem you from the blow of the sword.
21You will be hidden from the whip of the tongue.
You will not be afraid when ruin comes.
22You will laugh at ruin and hunger.
You won't need to fear the wild animals of the earth.
23For you will have a covenant with the stones of the field.
The wild animals will be at peace with you.
24You will know that your tent is safe.
You will check your home and find nothing missing.
25You will know that you will have many children.
Your family line will be like the grass of the earth.
26You will come to the grave still strong,
like a bundle of grain gathered at the right time.
27Look, we have studied this, and it is true!
So listen to it and know it for yourself."
