1"This makes my heart pound too.
It jumps out of its place.
2Listen closely to the thunder of his voice.
Listen to the rumbling that comes from his mouth.
3He sets his lightning loose under the whole sky.
He sends it to the ends of the earth.
4Then a roaring sound comes.
He thunders with his great voice.
When his voice sounds, he does not hold back the lightning.
5God's voice thunders in wonderful ways.
He does great things we can't understand.
6He says to the snow, 'Fall on the earth.'
He says to the light rain, 'Pour down hard.'
7He stops every person from working with his hands,
so that all people may know his work.
8The wild animals go into their hiding places.
They settle down in their dens.
9The storm comes out of its room.
The cold comes from the strong north winds.
10The breath of God makes ice.
The wide waters freeze.
11He fills the clouds with water.
He scatters his lightning through them.
12They swirl around and turn where he leads them.
They do all that he commands
over the face of the whole earth.
13He makes this happen to punish people
or for the good of his land.
He does it in his faithful love.
14Listen to this, Job.
Stand still and think about the wonders of God.
15Do you know how God sends out the clouds?
Do you know how he makes the lightning flash?
16Do you understand how the clouds float?
They are the wonders of the one who knows everything perfectly.
17Your clothes get hot
when the land is still under the south wind.
18Can you spread out the skies like God does?
They are as hard as a bronze mirror.
19Teach us what we should say to God.
We can't put our case together because we are in the dark.
20Should God be told that I want to speak?
Would anyone ask to be swallowed up?
21No one can look at the sun when it is bright in the sky,
after the wind has swept the sky clean.
22God comes out of the north in golden glory.
Awesome majesty is all around him.
23We cannot reach the Almighty.
He is lifted high in power!
He is fair and very righteous.
He does not treat people cruelly.
24That is why people fear him.
He does not pay attention to those who think they are wise."
