JobChapter 35

1Then Elihu went on and said, 2"Do you think this is fair?
You say, 'I am more right than God.' 3You ask, 'What good is it to me?
What do I gain by not sinning?' 4I will answer you
and your friends too. 5Look up at the sky and see.
Look at the clouds high above you. 6If you sin, how does that hurt God?
If you do wrong again and again, what does it do to him? 7If you do what is right, what do you give him?
What does he get from your hand? 8Your evil only hurts a person like you.
The good you do only helps another human being. 9People cry out when they are treated very cruelly.
They beg for help from the power of the mighty. 10But no one asks, 'Where is God my Maker?
He gives us songs in the night. 11He teaches us more than the animals of the earth.
He makes us wiser than the birds of the sky.' 12They cry out there, but God does not answer,
because evil people are proud. 13God surely does not listen to empty begging.
The Almighty pays no attention to it. 14So he will listen even less when you say you don't see him.
You say your case is in front of him,
and you must wait for him. 15You also say that he has not punished anyone in his anger.
You say he does not pay much attention to foolish acts! 16So Job opens his mouth for nothing.
He piles up words without knowledge."
