1"Yes, my eyes have seen all this.
My ears have heard it and understood it.
2What you know, I know too.
I am not below you.
3But I want to speak to the Almighty.
I want to argue my case with God.
4But you cover things over with lies.
You are all doctors who can't heal anyone.
5If only you would stay quiet!
That would show your wisdom.
6Now hear my argument.
Listen to what my lips are pleading.
7Will you speak evil things for God?
Will you tell lies for him?
8Will you take his side unfairly?
Will you argue to defend him?
9Would it go well for you if he looked closely at you?
Could you fool him the way you would fool a man?
10He would surely scold you
if you secretly took sides unfairly.
11Wouldn't his greatness terrify you?
Wouldn't fear of him fall on you?
12Your wise sayings are as useless as ashes.
Your defenses are as weak as clay.
13Be quiet, and let me speak.
Then let whatever happens to me happen.
14Why do I put myself in danger?
Why do I take my life in my own hands?
15Even if he kills me, I will hope in him.
I will still defend my ways to his face.
16Also, this will be what saves me,
because no godless man can come before him.
17Listen closely to my words.
Let what I say ring in your ears.
18Look, I have my case ready.
I know that I will be shown to be in the right.
19Can anyone bring a charge against me?
If so, I will be quiet and die.
20God, only give me these two things.
Then I won't need to hide from you:
21Take your hand away from me.
Don't let your terror frighten me.
22Then call me, and I will answer.
Or let me speak, and you can answer me.
23How many wrongs and sins have I done?
Show me my wrong and my sin.
24Why do you hide your face from me?
Why do you treat me as your enemy?
25Would you frighten a leaf blown by the wind?
Would you chase dry chaff?
26You write down bitter charges against me.
You make me pay for the sins I did when I was young.
27You lock my feet in the stocks.
You keep watch on every path I take.
You mark a line around the soles of my feet.
28So a man wastes away like something rotten.
He is like clothing eaten by moths.
