1Wake up, wake up, Zion!
Put on your strength!
Put on your beautiful clothes,
Jerusalem, the holy city!
For those who are uncircumcised and unclean
will not come into you anymore.
2Shake off your dust!
Get up and sit on your throne, Jerusalem.
Take the chains off your neck,
captive daughter of Zion.
3For this is what the LORD says:
"You were sold for nothing.
And you will be bought back without money."
4For this is what the Lord GOD says:
"At first my people went down to Egypt to live.
Then Assyria treated them cruelly for no reason.
5And now, what do I see here?" says the LORD.
"My people have been taken away for no reason.
Those who rule them make fun of them," says the LORD.
"And people speak against my name all day long.
6So my people will know my name.
On that day they will know
that I am the one who speaks.
Here I am!"
7How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of those who bring good news!
They announce peace.
They bring good news.
They announce that God saves.
They say to Zion, "Your God is King!"
8Listen! Your watchmen are shouting.
Together they shout for joy.
For they will see it with their own eyes
when the LORD comes back to Zion.
9Burst into joy and sing together,
you ruins of Jerusalem!
For the LORD has comforted his people.
He has redeemed Jerusalem.
10The LORD has bared his holy arm
for all the nations to see.
All the ends of the earth will see
how our God saves.
11Leave, leave, go out from there!
Do not touch anything unclean.
Come out from there and make yourselves pure,
you who carry the bowls and tools of the LORD.
12For you will not leave in a rush.
You will not run away in a hurry.
For the LORD will go ahead of you.
The God of Israel will guard you from behind.
13Look, my Servant will succeed.
He will be raised up and lifted high.
He will be greatly honored.
14Just as many people were shocked at him—
his looks were so ruined he looked worse than any man,
and his form was so ruined he hardly looked human—
15So he will sprinkle many nations.
Kings will shut their mouths because of him.
For they will see what they were never told.
They will understand what they have not heard.
