1But now, this is what the LORD says.
He is the one who created you, Jacob.
He is the one who formed you, Israel.
"Do not fear, for I have redeemed you.
I have called you by your name.
You are mine!
2When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.
When you go through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned.
The flames will not set you on fire.
3For I am the LORD your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.
I give Egypt as the price to set you free.
I give Cush and Seba in your place.
4You are precious and honored in my eyes,
and I love you.
So I will give people in trade for you.
I will give nations in place of your life.
5Do not be afraid, for I am with you.
I will bring your children from the east.
I will gather you from the west.
6I will say to the north, 'Give them up!'
I will say to the south, 'Do not hold them back!'
Bring my sons from far away.
Bring my daughters from the ends of the earth.
7Bring everyone who is called by my name.
I created them for my glory.
Yes, I formed them and made them."
8Bring out a people who have eyes but are blind.
They have ears but are deaf.
9All the nations gather together.
The peoples come together.
Which of them can tell about this?
Which of them can tell us the things of the past?
Let them bring their witnesses to prove they are right.
Then others may hear and say, "It is true."
10"You are my witnesses," says the LORD.
"You are my servant whom I have chosen.
I chose you so you would know me and believe me.
I want you to understand that I am he.
No god was formed before me,
and none will come after me.
11I, yes I, am the LORD.
There is no Savior but me.
12I alone said it would happen.
I saved, and I told about it.
It was I, not some strange god among you.
So you are my witnesses that I am God,"
says the LORD.
13"From forever I am he.
No one can rescue anyone out of my hand.
When I act, who can undo it?"
14This is what the LORD says,
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
"For your sake I will send to Babylon.
I will make all of them run away.
The Chaldeans will flee in the ships they were so proud of.
15I am the LORD, your Holy One.
I made Israel, and I am your King."
16This is what the LORD says.
He makes a way through the sea.
He makes a path through the rushing waters.
17He brings out the chariots and horses,
the army and the soldiers together.
They lie down and never get up again.
They are put out like the flame of a wick.
18"Do not keep thinking about the things of the past.
Do not pay attention to what happened long ago.
19Look, I am about to do something new.
It is starting even now.
Don't you see it?
I will make a road in the wilderness.
I will make streams in the desert.
20The wild animals will honor me,
the jackals and the ostriches.
For I give water in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert.
I give drink to my chosen people.
21I formed this people for myself.
They will tell how great I am.
22But you have not called on me, Jacob,
because you have grown tired of me, Israel.
23You have not brought me sheep for burnt offerings.
You have not honored me with your sacrifices.
I have not made you carry a heavy load of offerings.
I have not worn you out by asking for incense.
24You have not used your silver to buy me sweet cane.
You have not filled me with the fat of your sacrifices.
Instead, you have loaded me down with your sins.
You have worn me out with your wrongs.
25I, yes I, am the one
who wipes away your sins for my own sake.
I will not remember your sins anymore.
26Remind me of what happened.
Let us argue it out together.
Tell your side, so you can be proved right.
27Your first father sinned.
Your leaders who spoke for you turned against me.
28So I will bring shame on the leaders of your holy place.
I will give Jacob over to be destroyed.
I will let Israel be mocked."
