1At that time Merodach-baladan son of Baladan was king of Babylon. He heard that Hezekiah had been sick and had gotten well. So he sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah. 2Hezekiah was glad to welcome the messengers. He showed them what was in his treasure house. He showed them the silver, the gold, the spices, and the costly oil. He showed them all his weapons and everything in his storehouses. There was nothing in his palace or in his whole kingdom that Hezekiah did not show them. 3Then the prophet Isaiah went to King Hezekiah. He asked, "Where did those men come from? What did they say to you?" Hezekiah answered, "They came to me from a land far away. They came from Babylon." 4Isaiah asked, "What did they see in your palace?" Hezekiah answered, "They saw everything in my palace. There is nothing among my treasures that I did not show them." 5Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, "Hear the word of the LORD of Hosts: 6The time is surely coming when everything in your palace will be carried off to Babylon. All that your fathers have stored up until today will be taken. Nothing will be left, says the LORD. 7Some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood, will be taken away. They will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon." 8But Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "The word of the LORD you have spoken is good." For he thought, "At least there will be peace and safety while I live."
