1The wilderness and the dry land will be glad.
The desert will be full of joy
and bloom like a rose. 2It will be covered with flowers.
It will be very happy and sing for joy.
It will be given the glory of Lebanon
and the beauty of Carmel and Sharon.
They will see the glory of the LORD,
the beauty of our God. 3Make the weak hands strong.
Make the shaky knees steady! 4Say to those whose hearts are afraid,
"Be strong. Do not be afraid!
Look, your God will come with vengeance.
With payback from God,
he will come to save you." 5Then the eyes of the blind will be opened.
The ears of the deaf will be unplugged. 6Then the lame will jump like a deer.
Those who cannot speak will shout for joy.
For water will burst out in the wilderness.
Streams will flow in the desert. 7The dry, burning ground will become a pool.
The thirsty land will become springs of water.
Where jackals once lay down,
there will be grass and reeds and papyrus. 8A highway will be there.
It will be called the Way of Holiness.
Those who are unclean will not travel on it.
It is only for those who walk in the Way.
Fools will not wander onto it. 9No lion will be there.
No dangerous wild animal will go up on it.
They will not be found there.
But the redeemed will walk on it. 10So the redeemed of the LORD will come back.
They will enter Zion singing.
Joy that lasts forever will be like a crown on their heads.
Gladness and joy will catch up with them.
Sorrow and sighing will run away.
