1This is the message that was shown to Isaiah son of Amoz about Judah and Jerusalem: 2In the last days,
the mountain of the LORD's house
will be set up as the highest of the mountains.
It will be raised above the hills.
All nations will stream to it. 3Many peoples will come and say,
"Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,
to the house of the God of Jacob.
He will teach us his ways,
so that we may walk in his paths."
For the law will go out from Zion.
The word of the LORD will go out from Jerusalem. 4He will judge between the nations.
He will settle arguments for many peoples.
They will hammer their swords into plows.
They will hammer their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not lift up the sword against nation.
They will not train for war anymore. 5Come, house of Jacob,
let us walk in the light of the LORD. 6For you have left your people,
the house of Jacob.
They are full of ways from the east.
They tell fortunes like the Philistines.
They shake hands on deals with the children of foreigners. 7Their land is full of silver and gold.
There is no end to their treasures.
Their land is full of horses.
There is no end to their chariots. 8Their land is full of idols.
They bow down to things their own hands made,
to what their fingers have shaped. 9So people are brought low.
Everyone is humbled.
Do not forgive them! 10Go into the rocks.
Hide in the dust.
Hide from the terror of the LORD
and the glory of his majesty. 11The proud eyes of people will be humbled.
The pride of men will be brought low.
The LORD alone will be lifted high on that day. 12For the Day of the LORD of Hosts will come
against all who are proud and high,
against all that is lifted up.
It will be brought low. 13It will come against all the cedars of Lebanon,
so tall and lifted up,
and against all the oaks of Bashan, 14against all the tall mountains,
against all the high hills, 15against every high tower,
against every strong wall, 16against every ship of Tarshish,
and against every fine ship. 17So the pride of people will be brought low.
The pride of men will be humbled.
The LORD alone will be lifted high on that day, 18and the idols will be gone completely. 19People will run to caves in the rocks
and to holes in the ground.
They will hide from the terror of the LORD
and from the glory of his majesty,
when he rises to shake the earth. 20On that day people will throw away
their idols of silver and gold.
They made these idols to worship.
But they will throw them to the moles and bats. 21They will run to caves in the rocks
and to cracks in the cliffs.
They will hide from the terror of the LORD
and from the glory of his majesty,
when he rises to shake the earth. 22Stop trusting in man.
He has only a breath in his nose.
What is he worth?
