1How terrible it will be for the land of buzzing wings,
along the rivers of Cush. 2It sends messengers by sea
in boats made of papyrus on the waters.
Go, fast messengers, to a tall people with smooth skin.
Go to a people feared far and wide.
Go to a strong nation with a strange language,
whose land is divided by rivers. 3All you people of the world, who live on the earth,
you will see it when a flag is raised on the mountains.
You will hear it when a ram's horn blows. 4This is what the LORD told me:
"I will quietly watch from my home.
I will be like shimmering heat in the sunshine.
I will be like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest." 5For before the harvest, when the blossom is gone
and the flower becomes a ripening grape,
he will cut off the shoots with a pruning knife.
He will cut away the branches and throw them out. 6They will all be left for the birds of prey on the mountains
and for the wild animals of the land.
The birds will feed on them in summer.
All the wild animals will feed on them in winter. 7At that time gifts will be brought to the LORD of Hosts.
They will come from a tall people with smooth skin,
from a people feared far and wide,
from a strong nation with a strange language,
whose land is divided by rivers.
The gifts will be brought to Mount Zion,
the place of the Name of the LORD of Hosts.
