1This is the heavy message against Moab:
Ar in Moab is ruined,
destroyed in one night!
Kir in Moab is ruined,
destroyed in one night! 2Dibon goes up to its temple
to weep at its high places.
Moab cries over Nebo and over Medeba.
Every head is shaved.
Every beard is cut off. 3In the streets they wear sackcloth.
On the roofs and in the town squares
they all cry out loud.
They fall down weeping. 4Heshbon and Elealeh cry out.
Their voices are heard as far as Jahaz.
So the soldiers of Moab cry out.
Their hearts shake inside them. 5My heart cries out for Moab.
Her people run away as far as Zoar,
as far as Eglath-shelishiyah.
They go up the hill to Luhith, weeping.
On the road to Horonaim
they cry over their ruin. 6The waters of Nimrim have dried up.
The grass has dried out.
The plants are gone.
Nothing green is left. 7So they carry away their riches and everything they own
across the Brook of the Willows. 8For their cries echo to the border of Moab.
Their weeping reaches Eglaim.
It is heard in Beer-elim. 9The waters of Dimon are full of blood.
But I will bring even more on Dimon.
I will send a lion on those of Moab who run away,
and on those left in the land.
