HebrewsChapter 5

1Every high priest is chosen from among men. He is chosen to stand for them in things that have to do with God. He offers gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2He can be gentle with people who don't know better and who have gone the wrong way. That's because he is weak himself. 3That's why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins. He also offers them for the sins of the people. 4No one takes this honor for himself. God must call him, just as he called Aaron. 5So Christ also did not give himself the glory of becoming a high priest. God called him. God said to him, "You are my Son. Today I have become your Father." 6And in another place God says, "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek." 7While Jesus lived on earth, he prayed and begged God with loud cries and tears. He prayed to the one who could save him from death. And God heard him because he honored God. 8He was God's Son. But he still learned to obey through what he suffered. 9After he was made perfect, he became the source of salvation that lasts forever. He saves all who obey him. 10And God named him high priest in the order of Melchizedek. 11We have a lot to say about this. But it's hard to explain, because you are slow to listen and learn. 12By now you should be teachers. But you need someone to teach you the basic lessons of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! 13Anyone who lives on milk is still a baby. He doesn't know much about the teaching of what is right. 14But solid food is for those who are grown up. They have trained themselves by practice. Now they can tell good from evil.
