1"These are the names of the tribes. At the far north, Dan will have one part. It will run along the Hethlon road to Lebo-hamath. It will go on to Hazar-enan on the border of Damascus, with Hamath to the north. It will stretch from the east side to the west side. 2Asher will have one part. It will border Dan's land from east to west. 3Naphtali will have one part. It will border Asher's land from east to west. 4Manasseh will have one part. It will border Naphtali's land from east to west. 5Ephraim will have one part. It will border Manasseh's land from east to west. 6Reuben will have one part. It will border Ephraim's land from east to west. 7Judah will have one part. It will border Reuben's land from east to west. 8Next to Judah's land, from east to west, will be the part you must set apart. It will be about 8 miles wide. Its length from east to west will be the same as one tribe's part. The sanctuary will be in the middle of it.a 9The special part you set apart for the LORD must be about 8 miles long and about 3 miles wide.b 10This will be the holy part for the priests. It will be about 8 miles long on the north side. It will be about 3 miles wide on the west side and 3 miles wide on the east side. It will be about 8 miles long on the south side. The sanctuary of the LORD will be in the middle of it.c 11It will be for the priests who are set apart, the descendants of Zadok. They did the work I gave them. They did not go astray when the Israelites went astray, as the Levites did. 12It will be a special part for them, set apart from the land. It will be a most holy part, next to the Levites' land. 13Next to the priests' land, the Levites will have an area about 8 miles long and 3 miles wide. The whole length will be about 8 miles, and the width about 3 miles.d 14They must not sell any of it or trade it. They must not hand over this best part of the land to others, for it is holy to the LORD. 15The area that is left will be about 1 2/3 miles wide and 8 miles long. It will be for the city's common use, for houses and for pastureland. The city will be in the middle of it.e 16These will be the city's measurements: about 1 1/2 miles on the north side, 1 1/2 miles on the south side, 1 1/2 miles on the east side, and 1 1/2 miles on the west side.f 17The city's pastureland will reach about 440 feet to the north, 440 feet to the south, 440 feet to the east, and 440 feet to the west.g 18What is left of the length next to the holy part will be about 3 miles on the east side and 3 miles on the west side. It will run alongside the holy part. Its crops will be food for the city's workers.h 19The city's workers who farm it will come from all the tribes of Israel. 20The whole part will be a square, about 8 miles on each side. You must set apart the holy part, along with the city's property.i 21The land left on both sides of the holy part and the city's property will belong to the prince. His land will be next to the tribes' parts. It will stretch east from the 8-mile edge of the holy area to the eastern border. It will stretch west from the 8-mile edge to the western border. The holy part and the sanctuary of the temple will be in the middle of them.j 22So the Levites' property and the city's property will be in the middle of the prince's land. The prince's land will be between the borders of Judah and Benjamin. 23Here are the rest of the tribes. Benjamin will have one part. It will stretch from the east side to the west side. 24Simeon will have one part. It will border Benjamin's land from east to west. 25Issachar will have one part. It will border Simeon's land from east to west. 26Zebulun will have one part. It will border Issachar's land from east to west. 27Gad will have one part. It will border Zebulun's land from east to west. 28The southern border of Gad will run from Tamar to the waters of Meribath-kadesh. Then it will run along the Brook of Egypt and out to the Great Sea. 29This is the land you must give out as an inheritance to the tribes of Israel. These will be their parts," declares the Lord GOD. 30"These will be the ways out of the city. Start with the north side. It will be about 1 1/2 miles long.k 31The gates of the city will be named after the tribes of Israel. There will be three gates on the north side. They will be the gate of Reuben, the gate of Judah, and the gate of Levi. 32The east side will be about 1 1/2 miles long. It will have three gates. They will be the gate of Joseph, the gate of Benjamin, and the gate of Dan. 33The south side will be about 1 1/2 miles long. It will have three gates. They will be the gate of Simeon, the gate of Issachar, and the gate of Zebulun. 34The west side will be about 1 1/2 miles long. It will have three gates. They will be the gate of Gad, the gate of Asher, and the gate of Naphtali. 35The distance all around the city will be about 6 miles. And from that day on, the name of the city will be: THE LORD IS THERE."l
