1The LORD gave me this message. He said, 2"Son of man, tell the ruler of Tyre that this is what the Lord GOD says:
'Your heart is proud.
You have said, "I am a god.
I sit on the throne of the gods
in the middle of the sea."
But you are a man and not a god,
even though you think your heart is like the heart of a god.
3Yes, you are wiser than Daniel.
No secret is hidden from you!
4By your wisdom and understanding
you have gotten rich.
You have piled up gold and silver
in your treasure rooms.
5By your great skill in trading
you have made yourself richer.
But your heart has become proud
because of your riches.
6So this is what the Lord GOD says:
You think your heart is like the heart of a god.
7So I will bring foreigners against you.
They are the most cruel of the nations.
They will pull out their swords
against your beautiful wisdom.
They will ruin your glory.
8They will bring you down to the Pit.
You will die a violent death
in the middle of the seas.
9Will you still say, "I am a god,"
in front of those who kill you?
You will be only a man, not a god,
in the hands of those who wound you.
10You will die like an uncircumcised man
at the hands of foreigners.
For I have spoken, declares the Lord GOD.'"
11Again the LORD gave me this message. He said, 12"Son of man, sing a sad song for the king of Tyre. Tell him that this is what the Lord GOD says:
'You were the model of perfection.
You were full of wisdom
and perfectly beautiful.
13You were in Eden,
the garden of God.
Every kind of valuable stone decorated you:
ruby, topaz, and diamond,
beryl, onyx, and jasper,
sapphire, turquoise, and emerald.
Your settings and mountings were made of gold.
They were made ready on the day you were created.
14You were anointed as a guardian cherub,
for I had appointed you.
You were on the holy mountain of God.
You walked among the fiery stones.
15From the day you were created,
you did nothing wrong in your ways.
But then wickedness was found in you.
16You traded so much
that you were filled with violence,
and you sinned.
So I drove you in shame from the mountain of God.
I threw you out, guardian cherub,
from among the fiery stones.
17Your heart became proud
because of your beauty.
You ruined your wisdom
because of your glory.
So I threw you down to the earth.
I made you a show for kings to stare at.
18You sinned so much and traded so dishonestly
that you dishonored your holy places.
So I made a fire come out from inside you,
and it burned you up.
I turned you to ashes on the ground
in front of everyone who was watching.
19All the nations who knew you
are shocked at what happened to you.
You have come to a horrible end.
You will be gone forever.'"
20Then the LORD gave me this message. He said, 21"Son of man, turn your face against Sidon. Prophesy against her. 22Say that this is what the Lord GOD says: 'Listen, Sidon, I am against you. I will show my glory among you. They will know that I am the LORD when I punish her. Through her I will show that I am holy. 23I will send a plague on her. I will make blood flow in her streets. People will be killed inside her, with the sword against her on every side. Then they will know that I am the LORD. 24The people of Israel will no longer have neighbors who hate them and hurt them like sharp briers and painful thorns. Then they will know that I am the Lord GOD.' 25This is what the Lord GOD says: 'I will gather the people of Israel from the peoples where they have been scattered. Then I will show that I am holy among them while the nations watch. They will live in their own land, the land I gave to my servant Jacob. 26They will live there safely. They will build houses and plant vineyards. They will live safely when I punish all their neighbors who hate them. Then they will know that I am the LORD their God.'"
