1Then the LORD gave me this message. He said, 2"Now you, son of man, sing a sad song for Tyre. 3Tyre sits at the gate to the sea. She trades with the peoples of many coasts. Tell her that this is what the Lord GOD says:
'Tyre, you have said,
"I am perfect in beauty." 4Your borders are in the middle of the seas.
Your builders made you perfectly beautiful. 5They made all your boards
from cypress trees from Senir.
They took a cedar from Lebanon
to make a mast for you. 6They made your oars
from oak trees from Bashan.
They made your deck
from wood from the coasts of Cyprus.
They decorated it with ivory. 7Your sail was made of fine linen from Egypt,
with stitched designs.
It was also your flag.
Your covering was made of blue and purple cloth
from the coasts of Elishah. 8Men from Sidon and Arvad
rowed your oars.
Your own skilled men, Tyre,
were your captains. 9The elders of Gebal were on board as ship builders.
They fixed your leaks.
All the ships of the sea and their sailors
came beside you to trade for your goods. 10Men of Persia, Lydia, and Put
were soldiers in your army.
They hung their shields and helmets on your walls.
They made you look grand. 11Men of Arvad and Helech
guarded your walls all around.
The men of Gammad were in your towers.
They hung their shields around your walls.
They made you perfectly beautiful. 12Tarshish traded with you
because you had so many riches.
They traded silver, iron, tin, and lead for your goods. 13Javan, Tubal, and Meshech traded with you.
They traded slaves and bronze tools for your goods. 14The men of Beth-togarmah traded horses,
war horses, and mules for your goods. 15The men of Dedan traded with you.
Many lands along the coast bought from you.
They paid you with ivory tusks and ebony wood. 16Aram bought from you
because you had so many products.
They traded turquoise, purple cloth, stitched cloth,
fine linen, coral, and rubies for your goods. 17Judah and the land of Israel traded with you.
They traded wheat from Minnith, cakes, honey,
olive oil, and healing balm for your goods. 18You had so many products and riches.
So Damascus traded with you.
They brought wine from Helbon and wool from Zahar 19and barrels of wine from Izal for your goods.
They traded worked iron, cassia, and sweet cane for your goods. 20Dedan traded with you
in saddle blankets for riding. 21Arabia and all the princes of Kedar bought from you.
They traded lambs, rams, and goats. 22The traders of Sheba and Raamah traded with you.
For your goods they gave gold,
the best of all spices, and valuable stones. 23Haran, Canneh, and Eden traded with you.
So did the traders of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad. 24In your market they traded with you.
They sold fine blue clothes and stitched cloth.
They sold rugs of many colors,
tied with tightly twisted cords. 25The ships of Tarshish carried your goods.
You were filled with heavy cargo
in the middle of the sea. 26Your rowers have taken you
out onto the open sea.
But the east wind will smash you to pieces
in the middle of the sea. 27On the day you fall, everything will sink into the middle of the sea.
Your riches, your goods, and your products will sink.
Your sailors, captains, and ship builders will sink.
Your traders and all your soldiers will sink,
along with everyone else on board. 28The land along the shore will shake
when your sailors cry out. 29All who row with oars
will leave their ships.
The sailors and all the sea captains
will stand on the shore. 30They will cry out loud for you.
They will weep bitterly.
They will throw dust on their heads.
They will roll in ashes. 31They will shave their heads because of you.
They will put on sackcloth.
They will weep over you with deep pain in their hearts.
They will mourn bitterly. 32As they wail and mourn over you,
they will sing a sad song about you:
"Who was ever like Tyre?
Now she is silent in the middle of the sea!" 33When your goods went out over the sea,
you supplied many nations.
You made the kings of the earth rich
with your many riches and goods. 34Now the seas have smashed you
in the deep waters.
Your goods and all your people
have gone down with you. 35All the people of the coastlands
are shocked at what happened to you.
Their kings shake with fear.
Their faces are twisted with terror. 36The traders among the nations hiss at you.
You have come to a horrible end.
You will be gone forever.'"
