1It was the twelfth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month. The LORD gave me this message. He said, 2"Son of man, Tyre has said about Jerusalem, 'Aha! The gate to the nations is broken. It has swung open to me. Now that she lies in ruins, I will get rich.' 3So this is what the Lord GOD says: 'Listen, Tyre, I am against you. I will bring many nations against you, like the sea brings up its waves. 4They will destroy the walls of Tyre. They will tear down her towers. I will scrape away her soil and make her a bare rock. 5Out in the sea, she will become a place to spread out fishing nets. For I have spoken, declares the Lord GOD. The nations will rob her. 6And her villages on the mainland will be killed by the sword. Then they will know that I am the LORD.' 7For this is what the Lord GOD says: 'Look, I will bring Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon against Tyre from the north. He is the king of kings. He will come with horses and chariots, with horsemen and a huge army. 8He will kill the people of your villages on the mainland with the sword. He will build siege works against you. He will build a ramp up to your walls. He will raise his shields against you. 9He will aim his battering rams at your walls. He will tear down your towers with his axes. 10He has so many horses that their dust will cover you. He will enter your gates like an army entering a city with broken walls. Then your walls will shake from the noise of horsemen, wagons, and chariots. 11The hooves of his horses will trample all your streets. He will kill your people with the sword. Your strong pillars will fall to the ground. 12They will steal your riches. They will rob you of your goods. They will knock down your walls. They will tear down your beautiful houses. They will throw your stones, wood, and soil into the sea. 13So I will stop the sound of your songs. The music of your lyres will not be heard anymore. 14I will make you a bare rock. You will become a place to spread out fishing nets. You will never be built again. For I, the LORD, have spoken, declares the Lord GOD.' 15This is what the Lord GOD says to Tyre: 'The lands along the coast will shake at the sound of your fall. The wounded will groan as people are killed inside you. 16All the princes of the sea will come down from their thrones. They will take off their robes. They will strip off their fancy stitched clothes. They will be dressed in terror and sit on the ground. They will tremble all the time. They will be shocked at what happened to you. 17Then they will sing a sad song about you:
"How you have been destroyed,
famous city full of sailors!
You were powerful on the sea,
you and your people.
You made all peoples afraid of you! 18Now the lands along the coast tremble
on the day of your fall.
The islands in the sea are terrified
because you are gone."' 19For this is what the Lord GOD says: 'I will make you an empty city, like other cities where no one lives. I will bring up the deep ocean over you. Its mighty waters will cover you. 20Then I will bring you down with those who go down to the Pit. You will join the people of long ago. I will make you live in the world below, among the ancient ruins. You will be with those who go down to the Pit. Then no one will live in you. You will have no place of glory in the land of the living. 21I will make you a thing of horror, and you will be gone. People will look for you, but you will never be found,' declares the Lord GOD."
