1Then the Spirit lifted me up. He brought me to the gate of the house of the LORD that faces east. At the entrance of the gate were twenty-five men. Among them I saw Jaazaniah son of Azzur and Pelatiah son of Benaiah. They were leaders of the people. 2The LORD said to me, "Son of man, these are the men who plan evil. They give wicked advice in this city. 3They are saying, 'Isn't it almost time to build houses? This city is the cooking pot, and we are the meat.' 4So prophesy against them. Prophesy, son of man!" 5Then the Spirit of the LORD came on me. He told me to say, "This is what the LORD says: That is what you are thinking, house of Israel. I know the thoughts that come into your minds. 6You have killed more and more people in this city. You have filled its streets with the dead. 7So this is what the Lord GOD says: The people you have killed and left in this city are the meat. The city is the pot. But I will drive you out of it. 8You are afraid of the sword. So I will bring the sword against you, says the Lord GOD. 9I will bring you out of the city. I will hand you over to foreigners. I will punish you. 10You will be killed by the sword. I will judge you all the way to the borders of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD. 11This city will not be a pot for you. You will not be the meat inside it. I will judge you all the way to the borders of Israel. 12Then you will know that I am the LORD. You have not followed my rules or kept my laws. Instead, you have followed the ways of the nations around you." 13While I was prophesying, Pelatiah son of Benaiah died. Then I fell with my face to the ground. I cried out in a loud voice, "Oh, Lord GOD! Will you wipe out all who are left in Israel?" 14Then the word of the LORD came to me. He said, 15"Son of man, think of your brothers, your relatives, your fellow exiles, and the whole house of Israel. The people of Jerusalem have said about them, 'They are far away from the LORD. This land has been given to us to own.' 16So tell them, 'This is what the Lord GOD says: I sent them far away among the nations. I scattered them among the countries. But for a little while I have been a holy place for them in the countries where they have gone.' 17So tell them, 'This is what the Lord GOD says: I will gather you from the peoples. I will bring you together from the countries where you have been scattered. And I will give the land of Israel back to you.' 18When they return to it, they will remove all its evil things and all its disgusting idols. 19I will give them one heart. I will put a new spirit in them. I will take away their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. 20I will do this so that they will follow my rules and keep my laws and obey them. Then they will be my people, and I will be their God. 21But some people's hearts chase after evil things and disgusting idols. I will bring what they have done down on their own heads, says the Lord GOD." 22Then the cherubim spread their wings, with the wheels beside them. The glory of the God of Israel was above them. 23The glory of the LORD rose up from inside the city. It stopped over the mountain east of the city. 24The Spirit lifted me up. In the vision given by the Spirit of God, he carried me back to the exiles in Chaldea. Then the vision I had seen left me. 25I told the exiles everything the LORD had shown me.
