1Then the LORD said to Moses, "I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and Egypt. After that, he will let you leave this place. And when he lets you go, he will drive you out completely. 2Now tell the people that every man and woman should ask their neighbors for things made of silver and gold." 3And the LORD made the Egyptians look kindly on the people. Also, Moses himself was highly respected in Egypt. Pharaoh's officials and the people thought of him as a great man. 4So Moses said, "This is what the LORD says: 'About midnight I will go out through all of Egypt. 5Every firstborn son in the land of Egypt will die. This includes the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sits on his throne. It includes the firstborn son of the slave girl who grinds grain at the hand mill. And all the firstborn of the cattle will die too. 6Then a loud cry will go up over all the land of Egypt. No one has ever heard crying like it before, and no one will ever hear it again. 7But among all the Israelites, not even a dog will growl at a person or an animal.' Then you will know that the LORD makes a difference between Egypt and Israel. 8All these officials of yours will come to me. They will bow down to me and say, 'Go, you and all the people who follow you!' After that, I will leave." Then Moses left Pharaoh, burning with anger. 9The LORD said to Moses, "Pharaoh will not listen to you. This is so that I can do even more wonders in the land of Egypt." 10Moses and Aaron did all these wonders in front of Pharaoh. But the LORD made Pharaoh's heart hard, so he would not let the Israelites go out of his land.
