1So the king and Haman went to eat with Queen Esther. 2On that second day, while they were drinking wine, the king asked again. "Queen Esther, what do you wish for? It will be given to you. What do you want? I will do it, even up to half of my kingdom." 3Queen Esther answered, "My king, if I have found favor with you, and if it pleases the king, here is my wish. Let me live. And here is what I ask. Let my people live too. 4For my people and I have been sold to be destroyed, killed, and wiped out. If we had only been sold as slaves, I would have kept quiet. That trouble would not be worth bothering the king about." 5Then King Xerxes asked Queen Esther, "Who is this? Where is the man who would dare to plan such a thing?" 6Esther answered, "The enemy who is against us is this evil man, Haman!" Then Haman was filled with terror in front of the king and queen. 7The king was furious. He got up from his wine and went out to the palace garden. But Haman stayed behind to beg Queen Esther for his life. He could see that the king had decided to do something terrible to him. 8The king came back from the palace garden to the feast hall. Just then Haman was falling onto the couch where Esther was lying. The king cried out, "Will he even attack the queen while I am in the palace?" As soon as the king said this, they covered Haman's face. 9Then Harbonah spoke up. He was one of the eunuchs who served the king. He said, "There is a pole 75 feet high at Haman's house. He had it set up for Mordecai. Mordecai is the one who spoke up and saved the king." "Hang Haman on it!" the king said.a 10So they hanged Haman on the pole he had set up for Mordecai. Then the king's anger calmed down.
