1Children, obey your parents in the Lord, because this is right. 2"Honor your father and mother." This is the first commandment that comes with a promise. 3"Then it will go well with you, and you will live a long life on the earth." 4Fathers, do not make your children angry. Instead, raise them with the Lord's training and teaching. 5Slaves, obey your masters here on earth. Do it with respect and fear and an honest heart, just as you would obey Christ. 6Obey them not only to please them when they are watching you. Obey them as servants of Christ. Do what God wants with all your heart. 7Serve with a willing heart, as if you were serving the Lord and not people. 8You know that the Lord will reward each person for whatever good he does. This is true whether he is a slave or free. 9And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Stop threatening them. You know that the One who is their Master and yours is in heaven. And he does not play favorites. 10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God. Then you can stand firm against the devil's tricks. 12Our fight is not against flesh and blood. It is against the rulers and the authorities. It is against the powers of this dark world. It is against the evil spiritual forces in the heavenly world. 13So take up the full armor of God. Then when the day of evil comes, you will be able to hold your ground. And after you have done everything, you will still be standing. 14So stand firm. Put the belt of truth around your waist. Put on the breastplate of righteousness. 15On your feet, wear the readiness that comes from the good news of peace. 16Along with all this, pick up the shield of faith. With it you can put out all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation. And take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18Pray in the Spirit at all times. Use every kind of prayer and request. With this in mind, stay alert and never give up. Keep praying for all of God's people. 19Pray for me too. Pray that whenever I speak, God will give me the words to say. Then I can boldly make known the mystery of the good news. 20I am an ambassador for this good news, even though I am in chains. Pray that I will speak about it without fear, as I should. 21Tychicus is our dear brother and a faithful servant in the Lord. He will tell you everything. Then you will also know how I am and what I am doing. 22That is the very reason I am sending him to you. I want you to know how we are, and I want him to encourage your hearts. 23May God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give peace to the brothers and sisters. May they also give love with faith. 24May grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with a love that never dies.
