EcclesiastesChapter 6

1I have seen another evil under the sun. It is heavy on people: 2God gives a man riches, wealth, and honor. He lacks nothing his heart wants. But God does not let him enjoy these things. Instead, a stranger enjoys them. This is pointless. It is a painful evil. 3A man may have a hundred children and live many years. But no matter how long he lives, he may not be happy with the good things he has. He may not even get a proper burial. If so, I say a baby born dead is better off than he is. 4That baby comes for nothing and leaves in darkness. Its name is hidden in darkness. 5It never saw the sun or knew anything. Yet it has more rest than that man. 6This is true even if the man lives two thousand years but does not enjoy the good things he has. Don't all go to the same place? 7All of a man's work is to feed his mouth. Yet his hunger is never satisfied. 8So what does the wise man have that the fool does not? What does the poor man gain by knowing how to act in front of others? 9What the eyes can see is better than a wandering desire. This too is pointless. It is like chasing the wind. 10Whatever is here was named long ago. It is known what a man is. But he cannot argue with someone stronger than he is. 11The more words there are, the more pointless they are. How does that help anyone? 12Who knows what is good for a man in his life? He lives only a few short days, and they pass like a shadow. Who can tell him what will happen under the sun after he is gone?
