1Throw your bread on the waters, for after many days you will find it again. 2Divide what you have among seven, or even eight. For you do not know what trouble may come on the land. 3If the clouds are full, they will pour rain on the earth. A tree may fall to the south or to the north. Wherever it falls, there it will lie. 4Whoever watches the wind will not plant. Whoever looks at the clouds will not harvest. 5You do not know the path of the wind. You do not know how bones are formed in a mother's womb. In the same way, you cannot understand the work of God. He is the Maker of all things. 6Plant your seed in the morning. Do not let your hands rest in the evening. For you do not know which will do well, this or that. Maybe both will do equally well. 7Light is sweet. It is good for the eyes to see the sun. 8So if a man lives many years, let him enjoy them all. But let him remember the days of darkness, for there will be many. Everything to come is pointless. 9Be happy, young man, while you are young. Let your heart be glad while you are young. Follow the ways of your heart and what your eyes see. But know that God will judge you for all these things. 10So put sorrow out of your heart. Throw off pain from your body. For youth and strength do not last.
