1"The blessings and the curses I have put in front of you will all come on you. When they do, you may think about them again in all the nations where the LORD your God has driven you. 2You and your children may return to the LORD your God. You may obey his voice with all your heart and all your soul, doing everything I am commanding you today. When you do, 3then he will bring you back from captivity. He will have mercy on you. He will gather you again from all the nations where the LORD your God scattered you. 4You may have been driven away to the farthest edge of the sky. Even from there he will gather you and bring you back. 5The LORD your God will bring you into the land your fathers owned. And you will take it for your own. He will make you do well. He will make you more in number than your fathers. 6The LORD your God will circumcise your hearts. He will do the same for the hearts of your children after you. Then you will love him with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live. 7Then the LORD your God will put all these curses on your enemies. They are the ones who hate you and hurt you. 8And you will obey the voice of the LORD again. You will follow all his commands I am giving you today. 9So the LORD your God will give you plenty in all the work of your hands. You will have many children. Your animals will have many young. Your land will grow many crops. The LORD will again be glad to make you rich, just as he was glad to make your fathers rich. 10He will do this if you obey the LORD your God and keep his commands and rules that are written in this Book of the Law. He will do it if you turn to him with all your heart and with all your soul. 11This command I give you today is not too hard for you. It is not out of your reach. 12It is not up in heaven. You do not need to ask, 'Who will go up to heaven to get it for us? Who will tell it to us so we can obey it?' 13And it is not across the sea. You do not need to ask, 'Who will cross the sea to get it for us? Who will tell it to us so we can obey it?' 14No, the word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart, so you can obey it. 15Look, today I have put life and good things in front of you. I have also put death and disaster in front of you. 16Today I am commanding you to love the LORD your God. Walk in his ways. Keep his commands, his rules, and his laws. Then you will live and grow in number. And the LORD your God will bless you in the land you are going in to take. 17But if your heart turns away and you do not listen, and if you are pulled away to bow down to other gods and worship them, 18then I tell you today that you will surely perish. You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to take. 19Today I call heaven and earth to be witnesses against you. I have put life and death in front of you. I have put blessing and curse in front of you. So choose life! Then you and your children will live. 20Then you will love the LORD your God. You will obey him and hold on tight to him. For he is your life. He will give you a long life in the land. It is the land the LORD promised with an oath to give your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob."
