1This is the third time I am coming to you. "Every matter must be proved by what two or three witnesses say." 2I already warned you when I was with you the second time. Now, while I am away, I warn you again. I warn those who sinned before, and everyone else. If I come back, I will not go easy on anyone. 3I will do this because you want proof that Christ is speaking through me. Christ is not weak when he deals with you. He is powerful among you. 4He was crucified in weakness. Yet he lives by God's power. We are also weak in him. Yet by God's power we will live with him as we deal with you. 5Look closely at yourselves to see if you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Don't you know that Jesus Christ is in you? He is, unless you fail the test. 6And I hope you will see that we have not failed the test. 7Now we pray to God that you will not do anything wrong. We don't pray this so that people will see we passed the test. We pray it so that you will do what is right, even if it looks like we have failed. 8We can't do anything against the truth. We can only work for the truth. 9In fact, we are glad when we are weak but you are strong. And we pray that you will be made complete. 10That is why I write these things while I am away. Then when I come, I won't need to be harsh in using my authority. The Lord gave me this authority to build you up, not to tear you down. 11Finally, brothers and sisters, be full of joy! Work to be made complete. Cheer each other on. Agree with each other. Live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. 12Greet one another with a holy kiss. 13All God's people send you greetings. 14May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.
